Since it was announced that Meghan Markle is marrying into the Royal Family, the number of patients desiring a smile like Meghan’s has grown.
Markle is set to marry Prince Harry in May and she has become the latest celebrity inspiration for patients looking to improve their pout. Cosmetic surgeons in England are referring to the desire for lips like Meghan’s as “Markle lips”. According to Dr. Justin Yovino, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, the rising popularity of Markle’s lips “confirms that natural lips with well-defined border and columellas are attractive. It draws attention because it has sex appeal and is associated with youthfulness.”
Doctors in the United Kingdom say it is a combination of Markle’s perfectly proportioned lips, along with her lips having a “Cupid’s bow” that make her appearance so desirable to others. One member of the Royal College of Surgeons said Markle has ideal lip features thanks to a lower lip that is a bit larger than the top one as well as an upper lip that has a bit of a slope that goes down towards the corner of the mouth. Dr. Yovino says “The Cupid’s bow gives the lips definition and specifically establishes upper lip strength as well as personality, pout and framing. Lacking a well-defined Cupid’s bow is like wearing flats instead of heels. In other words, a new Cupid’s bow with nice strong peaks at the columellas is like wearing heels. Much like wearing heels makes the butt look better, so does the Cupid’s bow for the lips.”
In order to achieve Markle’s lip look, many patients turn to fillers to shape the lips as well as change their proportion. Depending on the type of dermal filler used by the doctor, the results can last anywhere from 6 to 9 to 12 months.
