PRP Injections

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a substance that promotes healing when injected. It is created by isolating plasma from the blood and processing it. Plasma contains special proteins that support cell growth and help the blood to clot. The procedure draws blood from a vein in the patient's arm into a vial. The blood is then processed using a centrifuge machine. A small amount of the PRP is injected using a syringe and needle. The injection area is then cleansed and bandaged.

Ideal candidates are suffering from hair loss, tendon injuries, acute injuries and osteoarthritis. Patients that are pregnant, anemic or undergoing anticoagulation therapy (and cannot temporarily suspend treatment) are not suitable candidates.

The typical cost for a PRP injection ranges from $500-$1200.The final cost depends on the condition to be treated, anesthesia fees, the surgeon’s level of expertise and the geographic location of the procedure.

Most patients can resume their daily activities immediately after the procedure. There could be slight discomfort, bruising and swelling at the injection site. These all dissipate within a few days. To get the best results, up to three PRP injections can be given, 2-3 weeks apart, within a six month time frame. The results are evident in a few weeks or months and are considered to be permanent.
