Actors and actresses are known for trying different methods to get into character for a movie role. Some actors and actresses decide to wear a wig or use a different accent while others decide to go a step further and make alterations to their appearance through cosmetic surgery. A recent example of an actress that used cosmetic surgery for a movie role is Salma Hayek. She had lip injections for a new role but the experience made her swear not to use cosmetic surgery anymore.
Hayek is 53-years-old and is scheduled to play beauty mogul Claire Luna in an upcoming movie entitled “Like a Boss”. Salma wanted to get into character and feel more like Luna for the big screen. In order to get deeper into character, Hayek deiced to have lip injections to augment and enhance the look of her lips.
She told InStyle magazine, “At first, the part was a very straightforward, ambitious businesswoman. It was fun to work with Miguel and the writers to create an actual crazy character.”
Since the character was an “actual crazy character”, Hayek consulted with a doctor so she could look more over the top. She told the magazine, “First, I wanted to do Botox and inject my lips, which I’ve never done. My friend [dermatologist] Dr. [Maurice] Dray said, ‘I don’t know if you’re going to be happy because it’s going to hurt super bad.’ I said, ‘Well, let’s give it a try.’”
Hayek went on to describe her experience in having the needles places in her lips. “He put the first needle in my mouth, and I immediately said ‘No! Forget it! I’m done!’”
Since she did not like the sensation of the needle going into her lips, Hayek decided to use fake teeth to make the appearance of her mouth more pronounced. She also claims that she is not going back to visit a cosmetic doctor anytime in the near future.
“My mother always demonstrated the importance of aging gracefully I never saw her or my grandmother being afraid of getting old. And so I don’t have that fear.”
While Salma Hayek was not a big fan of having lip injections performed to increase the size and shape of her lips, there are many people that have lip fillers placed on a regular basis to enhance the appearance of their lips.
Lip fillers are injected to give the patient lips that are fuller in appearance. Ideal candidates are people that want plumper lips, those that have naturally thin lips or lips that are thin due to the aging process and a person with wrinkles around the mouth.
The most popular types of lip fillers include:
Lip fillers can be placed in as little as 30 minutes. The filler can be injected at one time or the filler can be injected over the course of multiple sessions to ensure the final results are balanced. Most filler contains lidocaine to help ease any discomfort but some patients say it feels like a bee sting or pressure as the filler moves through the lips. The fillers work to add volume to the lips and well as enhance their appearance.
The recovery process from lip fillers starts with the doctor applying some ice to the lips to minimize any swelling. There will be some tenderness and numbness of the lips after the injections but pain medication is normally not needed after the treatment. Any swelling and bruising should subside within two weeks.
Patients should be able to see an immediate increase in volume after the lip fillers are placed. Once the swelling goes down, the results should be even more visible to the patient as well as others viewing the lips.
The length of the results depends on the type of filler used as well as how quickly the body of the patient breaks down the components of the filler. In general:
Patients interested in having lip fillers placed in their lips should schedule a consultation appointment with a board-certified doctor that has experience in the successful performance of lip fillers. Lip fillers can improve the self-image of a person and enhance the appearance of the lips. The doctor will examine the lips of the patient and determine the best lip filler option to achieve the desired, natural looking results.
