Learn how to reduce and eliminate the look of under eye bags

Under eye bags are characterized by puffiness and mild swelling under the eyes. In addition, the under eye area might have a hollow appearance thanks to the loss of volume in the area. Under eye bags are a common occurrence as a person gets older. Thanks to the aging process, the tissues around the eyes start to weaken and this can include some of the muscles that support the eyelids. In addition, normal amounts of fat that work to support the eyes can move into the lower eyelids and this can cause a puffy look to the area under the eyes. While under-eye bags are not considered to be a serious or severe medical condition, they can make a person look older or tired because of the swelling and puffiness. Thankfully, there a number of surgical and non-surgical options available to patients looking to reduce or eliminate the appearance of under-eye bags.

Cosmetic Town TV recently took an in-depth look at the different techniques and methods available to patients looking to address the issue of under eye bags:

Under Eye Bags Treatment Options

Some of the most popular options to teat under eye bags include:

  • Under Eye Filler – As a person ages, the fat compartments in the face drop and this causes the under eye area to separate from the cheek which results in a hollow look to the under eyes. In addition, genetics and the natural shape of the face can cause a hollow area to appear under the eyes. Fillers can add volume back to the area that has a hollow appearance. Hyaluronic acid fillers are an ideal option for patients since hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body so there is little to no chance of an allergic reaction happening after the fillers are injected in the targeted area. Some of the most popular hyaluronic acid fillers that are used under the eyes include Restylane and Belotero. Many doctors prefer to use hyaluronic acid fillers because they are transparent and have less of a chance of clumping after repeated eye blinking. Since they are transparent, they are not visible through the surface of the skin.
  • Blepharoplasty – A blepharoplasty surgery is also known as eyelid surgery and it is performed to restore the vision of a patient that is blocked thanks to an excess amount of skin and fat in the eyelids. In addition, blepharoplasty removes under eye bags that are visible on a patient. Blepharoplasty can be classified as upper or lower blepharoplasty. During an upper blepharoplasty surgery, the surgeon makes a number of incisions in the natural creases of the upper eyelids to eliminate the excess skin that is droopy or blocking the vision of the patient. Lower blepharoplasty is when an incision is made below the lower eyelashes in order to remove fat deposits located under the eyes.
  • Fat Transfer – The issue of hollowness under the eyes can also be treated by transferring fat from one area of the body to the area under the eyes. The transferred fat provides volume and refreshes and rejuvenates the appearance of the area underneath the eyes.

Cost of Under Eye Bags Treatment

The cost of any of the above treatments depends on the amount of work that needs to be performed, the treatment chosen by the doctor, the area of the country where it is performed and any fees charged by the doctor or the facility. In general, the prices are as follows:

  • Under Eye Filler – The cost depends on the amount of filler used and the cost per syringe so the patient can expect to pay anywhere from $800-$14000
  • Blepharoplasty – Both upper and lower eyelid surgery for a patient costs in the range of $3500-$5500
  • Fat Transfer – The cost depends on the amount of fat that is removed and transferred and patients will pay anywhere from $5000-$10,000

Under Eye Bags Treatment Results

Each of the treatments listed above results in a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance for the patient.

Patients that have under eye fillers might see some swelling and bruising after the fillers are injected. The swelling will diminish after a few days and bruising can last anywhere from one to two weeks. The results of hyaluronic acid fillers can last up to one year and patients can have a follow-up treatment to help maintain the results.

Blepharoplasty patients will see some bruising and swelling for about 7-10 days after the surgery. The final results are considered to be permanent.

Not all of the fat that is transferred will survive the process. There might be some redness and swelling for a few days. The results of fat transfer to the under eye area is permanent.

Under Eye Bag Consultation Appointment

Patients that want to address the issue of under eye bags should schedule a consultation appointment with a board-certified doctor that is experienced in treating the issue. The doctor can examine the patient to determine the extent of the under eye bags as well as discuss the desired final results. Once the doctor has all of the necessary information, the doctor will be able to make an expert and informed decision about the best treatment option to achieve the desired results when it comes to treating the under eye bags.
