Pearly Penile PapulesTreatment

Pearly penile papules are small, asymptomatic, skin-colored benign growths that form around the corona of the penis. They are harmless and not contagious. The available procedures to treat the condition include cryosurgery, CO2 laser surgery and excisional surgery.  Cryosurgery involves using extreme temperatures to freeze and destroy the targeted areas of tissue while laser surgery involves the use of infrared rays to cause heat damage and destroy the skin cells. Excisional surgery removes each papule individually.

Ideal candidates are patients who have pearly penile papules. Candidates should have realistic expectations regarding the results of the procedure. Patients with a history of scarring (keloid formation), bleeding disorders or any other medical condition that can impair the healing process are not good candidates.

The cost for a pearly penile papules treatment ranges from $700-$2500.The final cost depends on the procedure used, the extent of the work that needs to be performed and the geographic location of the procedure.

There is minimal downtime required after the procedure. There could be mild discomfort, scabbing and redness that dissipate within two weeks. Patients should avoid rubbing and picking at the treated areas during the recovery period. Patients should also refrain from wearing tight underwear. The results from the procedure are permanent as long as all necessary instructions are followed diligently.
