Liposculpture is performed to get rid of excess fat on areas of the body that do not respond to diet and exercise. The fat cells are permanently removed but it is not a weight loss procedure. The fat is removed through the use of a micro-cannula which is a thin instrument that is straw-like. The micro-cannula is attached to an aspirator machine and is inserted into small incisions to dislodge the fat located under the skin. The aspirator suctions the fat out of the body and then an elastic garment is worn to compress the skin and provide a better contour to the treated area.
