What is FUE Transplant ?

Follicular Unit Extraction Transplantation (FUE) extracts individual hair-containing follicles from the scalp. It places them in another part of the scalp or body, such as the eyebrows, face, or chest. FUE treatment results in less pain to the patient and a quicker recovery time. Transfer of individual follicles allows for a pleasing, natural look. New hair growth resulting from the transplant typically occurs within four months. Anyone experiencing thinning or balding of the hair can benefit from FUE. Follicular Unit Extraction treatment can enhance the appearance and restore self-confidence.

Types of FUE Transplant

Manual FUE

Manual FUE is performed using a small hand-held punch tool that collects each follicle individually. This technique allows for a more significant measure of control and ability of the surgeon to assess the specific location of the follicle and the resistance related to the extraction process. Manual FUE also results in minimal scarring and less occurrence of pain and infection.

Motorized FUE

Motorized FUE transplants are completed using a punch tool with a motor attached to it. The tool is controlled by the surgeon, using a button on the device or a foot pedal. Motorized FUE allows for quick removal of the follicles without any pressure or force applied to the scalp. Since technology is used to perform this procedure, the treatment time is reduced.

Automated FUE

Automated FUE utilizes a specialized instrument that incorporates either air suction or wet suction to remove follicles from the back of the scalp so they can be placed elsewhere on the body. This procedure helps to minimize trauma and scarring to the scalp and shortens the recovery time significantly.

Robotic FUE

Robotic FUE is done using a computer to help determine the best possible selection of follicles for transplantation. An image guidance system is used to scope out optimal locations from which to retrieve donor follicles. The robotic approach allows for the removal of follicles containing up to four hairs at a time.

FUE Transplant costs

Nationwide
$4000-$25,000 per session

The cost of follicular unit extraction depends on how many follicles are being extracted, the condition of the hair if any other treatments are being performed simultaneously, the number of treatments necessary to achieve the patient’s goals and doctor’s fees.

Typical FUE Transplant results

Follicular Unit Extraction treatment leaves a person with lavish hair that enhances confidence.

Since FUE is performed using the patient’s hair, the new growth blends well with existing hair to create a natural look. The transplanted hair looks completely genuine, even up close. The results are considered permanent and can cause a person to feel more desirable.

Alternatives to FUE Transplant

Medication

Two medications are commonly used to treat hair loss. Rogaine helps to stimulate natural hair growth. It is prescribed to be taken orally or spread on the skin. When Rogaine is placed on the scalp twice each day, new hair grows over several months. Since Rogaine causes the patient’s hair to regrow, those using it will end up with natural-looking hair. Finasteride is often used in conjunction with Rogaine. It can also help to prevent hair loss.

Follicular Unit Transplantation

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), or strip harvesting, is a surgery where a surgeon cuts a portion of skin growing hair from the scalp and extracts hair follicles from the skin. The doctor then inserts these follicles into the area of the body that lacks hair. The follicles will produce new hair and result in reestablishing hair growth. FUT is performed during a same-day office visit. Self-confidence will be restored after FUT surgery.

Low-level laser therapy

Low-level laser therapy, more widely known as the Bosley Revitalizer, is a non-invasive treatment mainly implemented at home. The individual receiving treatment wears a hat with lasers mounted on the inside that are formulated to increase cellular activity and blood flow, resulting in new hair growth. Since no anesthesia or medication is necessary, it is regarded as safe for men and women to treat hair loss.

Hairpieces

Hairpieces come in various colors and styles and can be worn to conceal baldness or thinning hair. Wigs are frequently worn by women and can be switched out regularly since there is such a large variety. They are held in place with clips, tapes, or glues. Men tend to gravitate toward toupees or other types of hairpieces.
