Facial Implant

Facial implants, AKA cheek, chin or jaw implants, augment, rejuvenate or reconstruct the contours of the face and give proper proportion to the face. In general, the steps involved in placing facial implants are the same for all areas of the face. The surgeon makes some markings on the face to determine where the implants will be placed and to know underlying structures that need to be avoided. The doctor makes a small incision in the area where the implant will be placed. A pocket is created where the implant is scheduled to be inserted. Once the implant is placed, the incision is closed through the use of sutures. The implants are made of solid silicone rubber.

Ideal candidates for facial implants cover a variety of patients including people with a weak or receding chin, those with an undefined jawline that does not adequately frame the face, patients who want to correct any facial deformities resulting from an accident, someone who wants to restore proportion and contour to the face that has been lost due to aging and people who want cheeks that are more defined/fuller. Patients who have an allergic reaction to silicone rubber can discuss other methods of altering their facial structure with their surgeon. Additional options include bone grafting, dermal grafting and fat grafting.

The cost of facial implants depends on the type of implants placed by the surgeon. Cheek implants cost anywhere from $2000-$5000. Chin implants run from $3000-$8000 while jaw implants are in the range of $2000-$4000. The total cost can vary thanks to any fees charged by the doctor or the facility, anesthesia fees, prescriptions for medication after the surgery and the geographic location of the surgery.

With any of the facial implant procedures, there will be some swelling, bruising and discomfort. However, the results will be seen almost immediately and will become even more visible once the swelling and bruising fades away.  The results of facial implants should last a lifetime if the patient does not suffer any sort of facial trauma or accident following the surgery.
