There are many workers at companies all across the United States that make the decision to have cosmetic surgery. These workers normally vary in age and profession as cosmetic surgery is a popular choice for people of all ages and income levels. When it comes to cosmetic surgery for the average employee, most people think of a commonly performed procedure such as a facelift or breast augmentation. Recently, there has been a growing trend among tech workers from multiple companies who have a certain procedure choice in common. Take a look below to learn about the tech workers who are having surgery to lengthen their limbs.
A cosmetic surgeon located in Las Vegas recently told GQ that a number of workers from companies as varied as Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft are spending thousands of dollars so they can be taller. According to the surgeon, the cosmetic procedure is able to lengthen the legs to the point that the patient can extend their height anywhere from three inches to six inches taller. In addition, the cosmetic surgeon revealed that many of his patients are tech workers for these companies.
Dr. Kevin Debiparshad is the founder of Limbplast X Institute. The company was founded in 2016 and has enjoyed a growth in business during the ongoing pandemic.
According to Kevin Debiparshad, MD, the procedure begins with the doctor breaking the femurs of the patients. The femur is the only bone in the thigh and the surgeon will insert metal nails into the thigh bones. Once they are placed in the designated area in the thighs, the metal nails are extended by a tiny amount each day for a period of three months. The metal nails are extended by using a magnetic remote control operated by the doctor.
Patients do need to know that it can take several months for the cosmetic surgeon to be able to slowly lengthen the bones to the desired length. It can also take several months for the legs of the patient to heal. For example, one software engineer who was interviewed by the magazine told GQ that he spent the first three months after the procedure alone in his apartment. He simply ordered fast food during the recovery process to make eating easier. At the end of the recovery period, his height changed from five feet, six inches to five feet, nine inches.
The total cost of limb lengthening surgery depends on a number of factors including the area of the country where it is performed, any extra fees charged by the doctor or the medical facility, and the extent of the work that the cosmetic surgeon will need to perform in order to achieve the desired results. In general, the cost is between $70,000-$150,000. In addition, the final cost also depends on whether the patient wants to extend their height by anywhere from three to six inches in length.
Dr. Debiparshad says the common factor that unites his client base for this procedure is that they are wealthy. However, his patients do vary by their profession as he has operated on actors, business CEOs, and finance employees. In addition, he has noticed a trend of treating tech workers who earn a good amount of money. Most of these tech workers are male patients but he has also treated some females who want to achieve a greater amount of height on a daily basis.
The doctor told GQ, “I joke that I could open a tech company. I got, like, 20 software engineers doing this procedure right now who are here in Vegas. There was a girl yesterday from PayPal. I’ve got patients from Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft. I’ve had multiple patients from Microsoft.”
Dr. Debiparshad says he does not recommend that athletes have the surgery as it might cause a decrease in their playing ability. In addition, the magazine shared the news that many of the patients they chatted with did not tell anyone they were having the surgery or that they already had the procedure performed on their legs.
One of the reason many male patients have made the decision to have plastic surgery is because there is less of a stigma surrounding male plastic surgery than in the past. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, cosmetic procedures performed on male patients increased by 325% from 1997 to 2015. Plus, many male tech workers view plastic surgery as a way to help them achieve their physical goals.
In addition to the physical changes made to the body by a procedure such as the one to lengthen the limbs of a person, there are also male patients who have treatments such as Botox, fillers, and hair transplants to help them maintain a more youthful and vibrant look in the workplace.
