Although Sandra Bullock joked about needing softer lighting to look younger at the Oscars, the gossip that she received cheek implants to look younger are not true.
Life & Style Magazine started the speculation by claiming that Bullock “made a surprise appearance on the 2018 Oscars red carpet”. This was not a surprise as it had been announced earlier that she would be a presenter at the Oscars.
The magazine then claimed that “her seemingly ageless beauty instantly sparked plastic surgery rumors” and that her fans were convinced she received cheek implants. The author of the article then used quotes from random Twitter users as proof that fans were convinced the surgery happened.
The magazine even quoted a doctor, who has never met Bullock, which spoke to its sister publication, Closer. The quoted doctor said “It is plausible to think that she had fillers to her cheekbones to increase their volume and to improve their contour.”
When asked to comment on the speculation, a rep for Bullock said “This is an unequivocal and bold lie. She absolutely does not have nor has she ever had any sort of cheek fillers or implants”.
Thanks to her joke about the lighting while on the Oscars stage, it is clear that Bullock is aware of the aging process. If she had actually undergone plastic surgery, she would not have needed to worry about lowering the lights.
