Paula Abdul has been in the public eye since the 1980s as a Lakers cheerleader, a dancer, a singer, and a judge on “American Idol”. Abdul has also been known for her figure as she has maintained the physique of a dancer for many years. She is also known for having breast implants placed in her body in the past few decades. Recently, she decided to make a change in the look of her body and have breast implant revision surgery. After many years of suffering pain in her back, Paula Abdul made the decision to have her breast implants removed.
In a video that she made for InMode, a medical device firm where she is a brand ambassador, Paula said “With my height, I’m petite. I started with smaller breasts and about 20-plus years ago I had implants put in, and the more I was dancing the harder it was getting on my back. As the years go by, gravity happens too, and I just always felt like [they were] a little too big for my frame, and I wanted to get the old implants out.”
The video also showed Dr. Jacob Unger explaining how he was going to remove the old breast implants in order to better tighten her skin and lift her breasts. The doctor also discussed the possibility of adding smaller breast implants to her body while saying that the plan was to “make sure we can reshape the breasts very well and get the best overall shape and contour to match your frame.”
Abdul responded by saying she was excited about the procedure and stated, “This is going to be great.”
The 58-year-old singer and dancer has been open in the past about undergoing cosmetic surgery procedures. For example, she had previously shared the news with the public that she had the skin on her arms tightened.
In an interview with People magazine in 2019, Abdul said “I wanted to do something for myself. I’ve had multiple spinal cord injuries and paralysis, and because my arms had paralysis, the muscles atrophied. I work out a lot, and no matter how many times I hit the gym and did bicep and tricep workouts, it was always difficult because I had to rebuild muscle tissue.”
In another interview that year, Abdul said “Women of our age, we start really looking for aesthetic treatments that resonate with you. I was thinking, I’m going to have my residency, I want to do something but I wasn’t ready to have the big incisions or any facelift.”
Dr. Frank Agullo, a plastic surgeon from El Paso, Texas, told OK! magazine “Paula Abdul has been publicly promoting radio-frequency treatments for skin tightening and rejuvenation as a patient for quote a while. You can see the skin tightening effect on her face, neck and body.” Dr. Agullo added, “It is evident that Paula has had volume restoration with fillers around the cheeks, lips, and mouth.” The doctor went on to add that the volume restoration has help Paula keep “her youthful and refreshed complexion on point.”
Breast implant revision is performed to correct changes, or deformities, that occur after breast implants are placed in the body. Some of the changes to the breast implants that can be treated include breast implant rupture and breast implant malposition. In addition, patients can switch out the breast implants in order to gain a larger or smaller size to the breasts.

Besides wanting to feel more comfortable with the size and shape of her breasts, Abdul is also motived by her dancing career. She has referred to dancing as her passion in life and the activity that keeps her going each day. Although she likes to stay in shape, she does realize the aging process is going to happen to everyone, but she tries not to put “too much pressure on it”.
