A 27-year-old man from Dudley, West Midlands, England, says he has been suffering pain in his buttocks ever since he had implants placed in his backside. Jordan Parke paid over $22,000 to have butt implants placed in his buttocks. Since the implants were placed, he has overcome necrosis, AKA the death of body tissue that is the result of too little blood flow to the tissues, as well as corrective surgery to his buttocks. Even with the corrective surgery, Parke claims that his buttock implants continued to leak due to ruptures in the implants.
In an effort to correct the issue, Parke flew to Istanbul, Turkey to visit a different clinic with different doctors. During his visit to the second clinic in Istanbul, Parke discovered that his buttock implants were actually breast implants.
Buttock implant surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and it takes about 2 hours to complete. The purpose of the surgery is to provide a greater amount of buttock augmentation and overall contour to the buttocks.
The butt implants are usually placed through the use of an intramuscular technique. This technique places the buttock implants within a pocket of the gluteal muscle to help lower the chances of post-surgery complications. The butt implants are placed in the buttocks after the surgeon makes incisions along the natural curves of the butt. The natural curves of the buttocks are the area of the body where the butt cheeks meet at the top portion of the thighs. A vertical incision is created down the center of the sacrum until the buttock muscle is reached. The surgeon will create a pocket that is located near, or under, each of the gluteal muscles. The gluteus maximus muscle is a sticky mass of muscles and the implants are placed in each side. The muscles are then closed around the implant. The incision that was created by the surgeon is then closed using layered sutures.
Parke was horrified to learn this news and equally dismayed at the amount of money he has spent on both the original surgery and the corrective surgery to try and address the issue. When speaking with the Daily Star (a newspaper in England), Parke said the corrective surgery cost him an additional $6000 and said “I can’t believe they discovered I had breast implants in my bum. I had no idea but as they’d already started to rupture and leak silicone, I could have died from sepsis if they’d been left any longer.”
He went on to add “No one in the UK was able to help as I’d had my surgery abroad and it needed to be corrected as soon as possible. I’ve now had the implants removed and they’ve been replaced with actual bum implants this time.”
Instead of the expected buttock implants, Parke received breast implants. While they were placed in his buttocks, the breast implants are supposed to be placed above the muscle (subglandular) or under the muscle (submuscular) to provide the desired increase in size and shape.
The breast implant process begins with the surgeon creating an incision in the body to place the implants. The incision can be placed in a number of areas including:
There are multiple FDA-approved implants that can be used by a surgeon. The choice of implants depends on the desired final results as well as the anatomy of the patient. The implant choices include:
The breast implants are placed to provide patients greater augmentation as well as their desired larger size and shape to the breasts.
While Parke is not happy with the way his buttock augmentation turned out, he is not done having plastic surgery to alter his appearance. When asked why he wanted to get buttock implants in the first place, Parke replied “I’m a huge fan of Kim Kardashian and her bum and I’ll stop at nothing to ensure mine is as big as hers.”
To date, he has spent over $158,000 on more than 80 cosmetic procedures include three rhinoplasty procedures, eyebrow tattoos, a chin implant and Botox.
