Watch the Correct Way to Perform a Belotero Procedure

As a person ages, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles becomes more prominent on the face. Many patients seek out cosmetic surgery in order to combat the signs of aging and one of the most popular methods is dermal filler known as Belotero.

In order to get a closer look at how Belotero is performed to reduce aging issues on the skin, Cosmetic Town TV went to Newport Beach, California to visit the office of Dr. Lavinia Chong. Dr. Chong sat down with us for an in-depth look at the proper way to perform a Belotero treatment.

What is Belotero?

Belotero is dermal filler that is made of hyaluronic acid which is a natural substance that is found in the human body. It also has low G-Prime which is the measure that determines the firmness level of filler. Since it has a low G-Prime, Belotero has low elasticity and viscosity which makes it a good choice to be injected close to the surface of the skin without producing odd colors or nodules.

Ideal candidates include patients with fine lines and wrinkles or folds that are moderately deep. In addition, patients with volume loss under the eyes and the desire to fill-in a depressed scar are good candidates. Patients that are bothered by the signs of aging on the face and want to reduce and/or eliminate them are also good candidates for a Belotero treatment.

How is Belotero Performed and What is the Cost?

The treatment can take as little as 30 minutes to perform and the injections can be administered in the office of a doctor. The areas that are targeted to be treated are cleaned by the doctor using an antibacterial agent and then the doctor marks the points on the body where the injections will be made. A fine needle is used to inject a thin, gel-like substance just under the skin of the area to be treated. The doctor will examine the area that has been injected before deciding whether additional filler is needed to achieve the desired results. Once the final injections are made, the doctor gets rid of the markings that were placed on the patient.

The cost of a Belotero treatment is in the range of $500-$800 per syringe. The final cost depends on the amount of filler injected, the number of areas being treated, the area of the country where the treatment is performed and any fees charged by the doctor or the facility.

Patients experience little to no downtime after having a Belotero treatment. There might be some temporary tenderness at the injection site as well as some redness, swelling and bruising. In addition, some small bumps might develop under the skin at the site of the injections but they will dissipate on their own or they can be dissolved through the use of an injection of hyaluronidase.

The results depend on the individual patient but the effects will be visible immediately after the injections. The area that is treated will look more youthful and fuller than before the injections. However, the effects only last six to eight months so the patient will need to have additional injections once or twice per year to maintain the results. The longevity of the results depends on where the injections are made and if there is a good amount of motion in the area. Too much motion in the treated area can cause the filler to migrate and not last as long.

In general, Belotero is seen as an effective means for facial rejuvenation for patients. Since Belotero is made of hyaluronic acid that is found in the human body, there is less of a chance of the filler being rejected by the body or the patient having an allergic reaction to the injection. The procedure is best performed by a board-certified doctor that has experience in injecting dermal fillers and also has a deep understanding of the facial anatomy of the human body. A doctor that is experienced in providing natural results with dermal fillers can also make sure that any possible side effects and risks are reduced for the patient.
