Celebrity Hair Transplant

Postby Dr. Mohebi on Thu Oct 08, 2009 7:54 am

Celebrity Hair Transplant is one of the topic that I get involved with a lot. My hair loss patients who visit one of our California offices of hair transplant often ask me whether or not you performed hair transplant on one particular celebrity. Names are numerous and my answer is almost always the same. "I could not tell you even if I did" and the reason is simply explained by patient confidentiality regulation and ethical matters.

Here at US Hair Restoration, we perform quality hair transplant and we get to operate on celebrities on a regular basis too. Are they different than a regular person who only seeks hair loss consultation for a hair transplant surgery? The answer is "Yes" at times they could be different. The expectations might be unrealistic and some of them do not want anybody to know they have even done anything cosmetically. However, I have had some of them that have been vocal about their procedures and sent me their friends and colleagues.

I've noticed certain people in the film industry and also a particular sports anchor with a hair transplant. At least that's what it looks like.

The transplants seemed to have been done so well that I initially thought I was going crazy, thinking that they used to be balding before. But then I realized they must've had some work done to have hair again.

It seems it's a very natural-looking procedure. If I were in their shoes, I'd probably get it done, too.

I think I know which sport ancorman you are talking about. I am sure there are a whole lot more than we just do not know them. Hair transplant is becoming so natural that even en expert may not detected it.

Costner, Kevin looks great after a hair transplant. I love his new look. It seems like he is back in busness. This is amazing how new hair transplant techniques can change people’s life. It has changed Hollywood face too. I do not think Hollywood is ever going to have another Yul Brynner!

The modern day Yul Brynner is Bruce Willis. He lost a lot of his hair and now he just shaves it. It seems like it hasn't hurt his ability to land roles in big movies, though.

A sports anchor, Steve Hartman, who appears on KCAL (channel 9), has had a hair transplant. He has been very open and vocal about it. He's even done radio spots for the particular L.A. transplant center in which he got his transplant done.

I must admit: he looks great.

Steve Hartman is a great example of an appreciative patient who does not shy away from promoting the center that gave him his new look. I know him from the time that I used to work with Dr. William Rassman at New Hair Institute. Unfortunately, there are not many patients like him. Some men who get hair transplant prefer not to share their hair transplant experience with others. Especially since the hair transplant with follicular unit transplants can produce such normal looking result that no one can tell it is not native hair, people can easily hide it.

I had a patients few weeks back with great result from only one hair transplant in about 10 months ago. This Young man who was in his twenties used to be class VI of baldness with no hair on a large area of his scalp. Now only after one hair transplant there was no sign of baldness. I asked him what does his folks think about his new look. He said: "they don't know". When he say my surprise he went on: "I told them I am using a new hair loss shampoo".

So you see why the cost of marketing and patient education is so high in some cosmetic surgeries.

Jamie Foxx is another hair transplant patient who looks fabulous. He lowered his hairline. But he was a candidate who wasn't losing hair. It seemed that he had always had a high hairline (this making it look like he had a big forehead).

When he had the transplant done, he had a temporary tattoo placed over his donor scar. During the 2007 Academy Awards, you might have noticed it.

Believe it or not, hair transplant has come a long way from the old school plug surgeries to completely natural results from follicular unit hair transplants only in the last 10-20 years. Hair restoration surgery is not part of Hollywood and we do not see as many bald people who are still in this business.

Dr. Mohebi,

Do most of your patients tend to want to hide their procedures? I can see how some people may consider it embarrassing, but isn't it worth having done to boost your confidence and self-image?? I think so, but apparently my brother disagrees. He is so worried about people finding out (about a hair restoration procedure) that he would rather struggle with confidence issues every day then even think about pursuing surgery.

Do you ever recommend that patients have the surgery done in stages to prevent a sudden change in appearance or are most surgeries done within the same day? I think my brother is most afraid of walking into work one day bald and the next day with hair. What do you normally recommend to ease patients that have reserves like this? I am glad to hear that celebrities are starting to be more open about these procedures, but I wish more people would jump on the bandwagon, because I don’t see any reason people should be self-conscious about a procedure that is supposed to alleviate their self-consciousness.

Doc, I just want to see my brother happy and confident again, please let me know if you know of any way to subtly restore the hair without a dramatic change in appearance overnight— if at all possible, this would most likely ease any discomfort he is feeling and encourage him to pursue the surgery. Thanks!

Many men who go through the process of hair restoration surgery prefer to keep it a secrete especially with the new techniques that makes creating a natural head of hair easily possible. For some who start their hair restoration process it is easier to hide it, but if they wait too long until they are totally bald and then decide to do the surgery it might be more difficult to cover and cannot be explained by "I just used a new shampoo".

I recently posted an article on my blog about the hair restoration and its social acceptability that could be found on hair restoration blog:
