Sensitive teeth

Postby Ronald on Sat May 16, 2009 4:16 pm

My teeth have always been pretty sensitive. I'm on a mission to make them less sensitive. I've tried a few toothpastes and I've tried just getting use to eating cold things. Let me tell ya, you NEVER get used to that

Can this be surgically corrected? I only wonder because I get headaches after eating something really cold. No, not like a brain freeze. It's after I've chewed on the food that's cold.

What causes teeth to be so sensitive anyway?

Any answers? Thanks!

Grr! My partner just let me know that I seem to grind my teeth when I sleep. Is that what's causing the sensitivity too? Is there anything I can use to stop the grinding? I don't want to wear out my teeth. I'm only 23 years old!

First you have to find out why your teeth are sensitive. It could be due to gringing which can cause gum recession. The uncovered root areas get exposed to hot and cold which give you sensitivity. Have your teeth looked at by a dentist. He or she can make you fluoride trays to wear to help calcify the exposed root surfaces. This may help in few applications and it takes time.
good luck

Re-calsify? Is that safe? How exactly would you use that unit and what are the best indications for this?

I never heard of recalsify either. It sounds like adding a layer of calcium contained material to the teeth. Does this coat protect tooth against decay too? How about the color, does it change the color of tooth.

Hi,

Most of all adults grind their teeth at night. Grinding or bruxism can be caused by stress or an unconscious
attempt to smooth out a poor bite. It wears down and may fracture teeth, and it can lead to gum and jaw
problems in your mouth . So as possible make an appointment with your dentist, who will make a custom
mouthpiece for you to wear at night. This will prevent further damage to your teeth and may reduce your
tendency to grind.

Your dentist will look at your dental history and will examine your mouth. He or she will ask about your oral habits because grinding or clenching your teeth can contribute to sensitivity. Your dentist also will look for tooth decay, deep metal fillings and exposed root surfaces. He or she may use an explorer — a metal instrument with a sharp point — to test teeth for sensitivity. Dentists have a variety of regimens to manage tooth hypersensitivity, including both in-office treatments and patient-applied products for home use. If you are diagnosed with dentin hypersensitivity, your dentist may apply a desensitizing agent or a protective coating.

I think you have to make a good conversation with your dentist for this. And don't worry about it. These are normal in cosmetic dentistry.

Brushing your teeth too hard will wears away the enamel layer.Poor oral hygiene,This may allow tartar to build up at the gum line.Long-term tooth wear,Untreated cavities and old filling with a crack or leak.
