Scar Revision

Patients who are good candidates for scar revision include those with a completely healed scar or scars that are flat, sunken and/or lumpy. In addition, people with scars that are a different color than the natural skin tone can have the scar revised to match the tone of the surrounding skin.

Topical creams, ointments and gels cost $15-$50 depending on the product size while cortisone injections are $100-$300 per host. Collagen injections run anywhere from $250-$800 per shot and microneedling is $200-$500 per session. Surgical scar removal runs from $1500-$5000 depending on the severity of the scar.  Chemical peels range from $200-$900 depending on the type of peel performed and laser treatments are $300-$800 for small scars and $1000-$2000 for large scars.

Topical creams, injections and microneedling have minimal recovery time. Laser treatments and chemical peels vary by if it is a light or aggressive treatment. Surgical scar revision recovery depends on the complexity of the surgery. Overall, patients can expect swelling and discoloration for a few weeks as the new scar heals and fades. Injection results are usually long lasting but they may need to be repeated depending on the type of treatment. Microneedling results last for several years. The results from a chemical peel and laser treatment last anywhere from 3-6 months to 1-2 years and surgical scar results can be considered permanent.
